Designed by Neri & Hu Architect group, The Walled Hotel is a 20-room boutique hotel dotted with small lakes and a handful of per-existing structures. Inspired by the courtyard house typology of vernacular Chinese architecture, the architect group made use of the old buildings that coated the land where The Walled Hotel now resides. The original structures have been reused and given new functions to accommodate to the hotel's capacity needs. The variety of buildings tie the entire project together and multiple courtyard enclosures. Several of the courtyards are occupied by guest rooms and shared amenities, such as reception, a library and restaurant. Three buildings in the unit take their place in the panorama, a rising second floor of the largest courtyard building, a lakeside pavilion of four guestrooms and a multi-functional building is located at the furthest points of the site.
