Located in the upscale Villa Nova Conceição neighbourhood, Fernanda Marques and her Brazilian design firm completed the renovation of this duplex to complement the homeowner’s extensive art collection. In addition to works by local artists such as Ernesto Neto, Edgard de Souza, and Manoel Rio Branco, the apartment is furnished with pieces by notable modernist Brazilian designers. From Joaquin Tenreiro’s dining set to Jangada armchairs by Jean Gillon, each corner of the duplex feels like a design exhibit.
The main showcase, however, is a wall of double-height windows in the home’s living room, revealing a courtyard of greenery on top of a glass-encased pool. Designed by Fernanda Marques and her design firm in Brazil, the courtyard’s wall of lush garden landscape is placed directly next to the 10m pool, which can be seen from the apartment’s bedroom as well as the second-floor living area. The home’s interior was kept simple by Marques to allow the treasures of this home to shine. Intended as a way to convey poetic presence inside this art collector’s home, the greenery of the courtyard garden gives a feeling of zen, while the aquamarine of the pool adds an elegant tint for a final creative touch.
